In old times energy healing was used among all people but, with the materialistic philosophy of western countries, it fell into disuse. In the East, especially in India and China, it has survived to our day, and has lately got foothold in the West as well. In some European countries, e.g. Great Britain, it is has been authorized to be used in hospitals. From among the many methods nowadays in use, Reiki was founded in Japan in the 19th century by Dr. Usui, and Reconnective Healing, surprisingly, in the West by Dr. Pearl. Both of these methods treat not only the body but also the mind, and, I would say, the soul. They treat us as a part of the whole, a part of the Universal energy, a part of Oneness.
